Historical background
It is the Gospel written by Luke—a physician and co-worker of Paul—to Theophilus, based on careful investigation. It has the most detailed account of Jesus' birth, and its mark is a concern for women, the poor, and the outcast. It is the first of a two-part work continued in Acts.
What to watch for
Feel God's heart in the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son (chapter 15).
Look at how Jesus meets the outcast (tax collectors, sinners, women, Samaritans).
Notice how the role of the Holy Spirit is emphasized in Luke.
