Historical background
It holds the questions the prophet Habakkuk put to God, and God's answers, at a time when Babylon's invasion was drawing near. Unlike other prophets who spoke the word to the people, Habakkuk is distinctive in its form of direct dialogue with God. 'The righteous shall live by faith' (2:4) became a central theme of Paul's letters.
