Historical background
One of the prison letters Paul wrote from a Roman jail, it seems to have been written to be circulated among several churches in Asia Minor, including Ephesus. The first part (chapters 1-3) covers the doctrinal foundation of the church, and the latter part (chapters 4-6) its practical application to life. It is the letter in which the doctrine of the church is most richly developed.
What to watch for
Find how often the phrase 'in Christ' appears in chapters 1-3.
Understand the essence of the church in the oneness of Jew and Gentile (chapter 2).
Meditate on what each piece of the armor of God (6:10-18) means in actual life with God.
