Historical background
It is the letter Paul wrote, after his release from a first imprisonment in Rome, to Timothy, whom he had left in charge of the church in Ephesus. Along with Second Timothy and Titus, it is classified among the 'Pastoral Epistles.' It holds practical guidance for ministry—qualifications for church leaders, order in worship, and dealing with false teaching.
