Historical background
It records from David's final years through Solomon's reign, the division of the kingdom, and the early years of the northern and southern kingdoms. Solomon built the temple and brought Israel to its peak, but idolatry split the kingdom in two. The ministry of the prophet Elijah also begins in this period.
